October 2011

As many of you know, I pared down Built by Mom a while back to focus on my job as computer technician at a local school district. While I enjoyed my work there, many districts have been hit hard by budgetary constraints, and my district was no exception. So while my position was "downsized"...I am not sad, because now I can return to what I truly love, and that is helping YOU, my customers! Starting in early October, I am returning to my own business full time, with some new bells and whistles to help better serve you. Starting with a brand new website, other changes will include:

  • Remote support - I can now help you with computer problems remotely. This is great for those times when I can't get to your place or you have some minor annoyance that needs fixing.
  • Service requests - I will feature I way you can request help right through my website, through an easy-to-submit online ticketing system
  • Improved billing - I have a new system in place that will help me accept payments and keep you in the loop throughout the entire life-cycle of a service or repair

All of these exciting changes will be detailed here on my website, and as always, I will post regular updates and tech news on my Facebook page and Twitter.

My new fall hours are:
Monday 9 - 4:30
Tuesday 9 - 3
Wednesday 9 - 4:30
Thursday 9 - 3
Friday 9 - 5
...and weekends by appointment.

Before I go, I'd like to offer a special THANK YOU to all my customers that have kindly referred their friends and neighbors to me for help. It means a lot to me and I appreciate your trust!

Have a wonderful fall!

December 2009

I have a new Google Voice number to reach me: 270-5207. My cell number (748-6535) will still work just fine.

Win7In other news: Windows 7 is here! If you've been putting up with Windows Vista or are still holding on to XP, you now have another option--Windows 7. As always, I recommend a clean install. It's a bit more trouble but worth the hassle-free result in the end. If you're thinking about upgrading, be sure to run Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor to see if your current computer can handle it (if you're running Vista already the answer is yes; if you're running XP it's worth checking).

Here's a list of ten reasons you might consider the upgrade.

Prices of Windows 7 range from $110 for the Home Premium upgrade, to $200 for Windows 7 Ultimate (more than most people need). In either case, the cheaper "upgrade" price does require a valid CD or key from a previous operating system.

I can back up all your important data and reinstall your programs and drivers after the upgrade for a flat rate of $80.

Lastly, Firefox 3.5.5 is out! I always recommend running the latest and greatest from Mozilla, along with my favorite add-on, Adblock Plus.
